A skill is a short instruction file for Claude Code, Anthropic’s coding assistant. It teaches the AI a way of working, a checklist it follows the same way every time, so you don’t have to explain it again in every session.
A few things worth knowing:
- Where they come from: One skill per major feature built here, not one per day of work. Each was used on real work before it went up, and most have a story in the Ship Log.
- What you get out of it: The trial and error is already done. You get the steps and the traps I found the hard way, and your AI follows them without you writing a long prompt.
- Safe by design: A skill runs only when you call it. It never publishes, posts or deploys anything; it prepares, you press the button. Your project’s own rules win over the skill, and no skill holds passwords or server details.
- Easy to switch off: Turn one off for a single project, disable it everywhere, or uninstall it. Nothing in your project depends on it, so removing it leaves your work as it was.
- Free: MIT licence. Use them, change them, share them. The source is on GitHub.
